Textbook returns have started and will go until 9/17 at The Skidmore Shop.

You will need the following items to return textbooks:
-The books you are returning (obviously).
-The original transaction receipt (stapled to a hideously pinkish/orangeish/salmon colored paper).
-The original card (credit,debt,Skidmore ID) you used to purchase your books.
-Your wallet if you paid in cash.

The textbook return area is located inside the Skidmore Shop as you walk in.

I'm gonna give you the 411 on a sweet sale we're having at the Skidshop. Show up between 8:00AM and 8:30AM on Monday August 24th, and you are gonna get a sweet 50% off of most merchandise in the store. Yeah..there are exceptions, such as Apple computers and Apple products, textbooks, netbooks, tradebooks, healthy and beauty, newspapers, magazines, some art supplies won't see a discount...as well as a few other things I can't seem to think of right now. But that leaves the rest of the store vulnerable to the 50% discount. But again..the catch is you have to be at the Skidshop between 8:00AM and 8:30AM on Monday August 24th.

We'll even supply the coffee. Well....WE won't. But our pals from Dining Services will.

I can't believe it's August already! I hope all of you are having a great summer vacation. Things here at The Skid Shop have been pretty good. We've been busy taking care of the summer programs and getting the bookstore ready for the upcoming fall semester. Don't worry....it hasn't been all work. We've all managed to take some time off to recharge ourselves.

Just wanted to remind all of you that you can order and prepay for your textbooks right now online. You pick your books and we'll pack em up in a box and have them ready for you when you arrive on campus in September. Just walk into The Skidmore Shop with your Skidmore ID and pick up your books. It's been a little while since we've posted here. Hey..it's not because we're lazy...we've been busy!! Anyhow, just wanted to let you know that if you happen to be on campus today you should stop into the Skid Shop and check out the ZeBags vendor. She's located right in front of the bookstore and has a great collection of bags for you to use this summer. Then tomorrow we have Audrey's Art returning with her selection of scarves and other goodies.

Well...this is it. The Class of 2009 graduate tomorrow at SPAC. Things start at 11AM and will probably end around 2ish (I'm guessing). The Skidmore Shop will be open on Commencement Day from 2PM to 6PM for all of your Skidmore College goods. Don't forget those coupons we packed into your cap and gowns.

Alright Seniors. You're almost there. Graduation is just a couple of days away. We want to make sure you look good when you walk across that stage. We will be handing out cap and gowns all day today at The Skidmore Shop.

If for some reason you forgot to order your cap and gown (it happens)..don't panic. Just come to the store and talk to someone. It's first come first serve on the extra cap and gowns. Meaning the sooner you are here the better we can get you into a cap and gown thats fitted just for you. But if you can't make it in..well..that just means you might have a really long cap and gown..or a really short one. I'd say just get in here.

Jostens Rings will also be here with to help you with a Skidmore ring purchase. You'll have a chance to win one of four Skidmore class rings.

In case you haven't heard, the Speakers Bureau is bringing David Sedaris to Skidmore on March 30. There will indeed be a book signing and The Skidmore Shop will be providing the books. We'll be selling books out front of Gannett starting at 6PM. You can pay with Skidmore ID, cash, checks and credit cards. Pick up a book and get it signed. That way you have proof that you met the guy.

Just wanted to let all of you know about the special hours at The Skidmore Shop on Thursday February 26. We will open our doors at 2PM and stay open until 10PM that day.

IMPORTANT!!!!
If you are an art student, please make sure you stop into the Skidmore Shop on Wednesday to pick up your Thursday morning art supplies. We don't want to see your sad faces pressed up against our doors on Thursday morning wondering why we aren't open. Actually, we won't see them because we won't be there......but the mere thought of you being sad makes me sad. Honest. So just be sure to stop in on Wednesday to pick up your class supplies.

So why the special hours you ask?
We have something fun planned for all of you and the only way we can do it is to push back our hours of operation that day. We are having our annual Skidmore Shop fashion show on Thursday February 26 at The Spa beginning at 8PM. Stop over and check out your fellow classmates and staff members model some of the great Skidmore apparel that you can get at The Shop. I should also mention that The Spa will be open late that night as well as a DJ spinning music from 8PM to 11PM. It's going to be a lot of fun. There may be other little surprises as well. Not gonna tell you what they are. So if you want to know, then I guess you'll have to stop over and find out for yourself.

Things start at 8PM with DJ Kirsten spinning until 11PM. The fashion show starts at 8:30PM with your fellow Skidmore classmates and staff modeling some of the great things you can find in the store. Want to feel like a winner? Stop into the Skidmore Shop and take a guess at how much our custom made Valentines Day chocolate bar weights and you can take it home and share it with your friend(s)...or just eat by yourself during a LOST marathon. You'll also get a $50 gift card towards dinner for two at a restaurant of your choice.

Here are some hints that might make your guessing a little easier.

If you own an iPhone or iPod touch, we have a cool app for you to check out. Skidmore grad Zach Gage '07 created this app called synthPond..this weird spacial sequencer/audio toy...hey, that's what it says on his website. There are two versions. The full version, which is a $1.99 and the lite version, which is free. It's actually a pretty cool app. I managed to keep myself entertained with it during two full laundry loads the other day. Just open up your apps on your iPhone or iPod Touch and search for it. Or check out Zach's website here. You'll find information and video on how it works. Of course if you don't own an iPhone or iPod Touch...well I guess you are outta luck. Sort of. Today is the day. Today is the last day for textbook returns. We're open until 5PM today. So don't come to us on Monday crying about how you didn't know.

Sorry folks, but do to the massive amounts of snow coming down on us today the College has decided close at 2PM. We apologize in advance to any inconvenience this may cause you. As of right now we expect to re-open The Skidmore Shop early tomorrow morning at 9:15 in the AM. Of course if it continues to snow, then there's a chance we'll have another snow day. It's in Mother Natures hands now. All we can do is hope. We promise to keep you updated on our status.

Going to the movies?

Next time you and your friends head to the movies you should make a quick pit stop to The Skidmore Shop to pick up your tickets. We have tickets here for $7 which is a couple of bucks and some change cheaper than what the theater sells them for. You can use them anytime for any movie at any Regal movie theater. Okay...maybe not ANY movie. You can't use the tickets on opening night for a big* movie premiers such as the time when Vanilla Ice made his big movie premier back in 1991. Yeah, the lines were huge...I mean..at least that's what my cousin told me. I'd never wait hours in a line to see a movie with him in it. Never. But if you did choose to go on opening night, you can upgrade the tickets at the theater for couple of bucks. So there's still some savings. Just stop in and see the good people at the registers for tickets.

* A big movie premier would be something like the opening night of TWILIGHT (personal opinion...vampires in love? Barf). You can use your ticket on some movie premiers. Just check with the theater for restrictions.

They'll pretty much turn anything into chowder these days. If you've got nothing planned on Saturday you should head downtown to check out chowderfest. Sample all the different chowder concoctions you want and then vote for your favorite. Winning chowder will go down in history as the greatest chowder in Saratoga Springs, NY for 2009. You'll be a part of history. So if you didn't make it down to Washington, D.C. to witness the inauguration of President Obama in person..well this is the next best thing. You'll be witnessing chowder history.

I know, I know..this has nothing to do with the bookstore. But does it always have to be about us?!

If you missed textbook buy back at the d-hall last night. Do not fret. You have two more opportunities at the d-hall. You can stop in Tuesday December 16 from 5PM to 8PM or you can try on Wednesday December 17. Same time.

Of course you can always stop in Monday - Thursday at the college bookstore from 9:15AM to 4:30PM or on Friday from 9:15AM - 3:30PM. So many chances sell your books.

Anyone remember this day back in February last year? Took me forever to dig my car out. My car is in the middle...I think. I woke up this morning hoping to see the same thing thinking I'd get to stay home from work and catch up on episodes of The Office and maybe sneak in a little Price Is Right. Which by the way hasn't been as good since Bob Barker left. Sadly I didn't get to stay home. Which means I'm here at work. Which means we're open for business!! So stop in and say hi. Hey, remember when Richard Dryfuss made a sculpture of Devils Tower National Monument out of mashed potatoes in Close Encounters of the Third Kind? Well...now's your chance to help out an area family so they can do the same thing over the holidays. Beginning Monday November 24th The Skidmore Shop will be collecting boxed mashed potatoes for the Skidmore Cares program. The collection box will be located at the front of the store. Bring us as many boxes as you'd like. We'll take them!!

The Biggest Winner in the History of Skidmore

That may be a gross exaggeration, but we do have a winner! The Skidmore Shop's Halloween candy-jar-guessing-game-o-rama (not the official title, but it does have a ring to it) is over, and it was a close one! The official count was 448 pieces of candy, and the closest you seasoned professional estimators came was 437. Incidentally, two of you guessed that number, but only one of you claimed the title of Best Quantity Guesser in category of Seasonal Confections. And, I'm sure you all saw this coming, Katherine Garcia is our winner! Way to go, Katherine! I was betting on you all along. Now Bob Carlton owes me nachos.
